Nobody wants to reset their router until and unless things are completely broken. But sometimes it is unable to avoid.
If the orbilogin page won’t load no matter what you try.
If Orbi keeps dropping connection even after firmware updates.
If you forgot your login details and can’t access settings anymore.
If you messed up a configuration and now the network is acting up.
In all those cases, a factory reset Orbi clears everything clean. It is like starting fresh out of the box.
Step 1: Try Orbilogin First (Before Resetting)
Before going directly for resetting your router, you should try to login in the normal way.
Go to a browser and type directly in the address bar orbilogin.com or orbilogin.net.
If that does not work then you can also try with the IP address which is 192.168.1.1.
Make use of your admin credentials and the default are usually admin/password unless you changed it.
Once you are inside then you can easily reset from inside the dashboard. If that does not work, you will have to do it the hard way with a manual Orbi factory reset.
Step 2: Manual Factory Reset Orbi
It is the method which is used when the login page does not open and there is no other way to access the settings.
Make sure that your Orbi is powered on.
Look for the tiny reset button at the back.
Take a paperclip, SIM pin or anything pointy.
You have to press and hold the button for about 10 to15 seconds until the power LED starts blinking amber.
Release the button and wait for the Orbi to reboot itself.
Once it reboots, your Orbi will be completely fresh like the new one. The factory reset Orbi removes all custom settings, WiFi names, passwords and anything you had configured.
Step 3: Set It Up Again Through Orbilogin
After a reset, you will need to set up your router again.
You have to connect your device to the default Orbi WiFi (look at the sticker on the router for details).
Open your browser and enter the orbilogin.com.
Make sure to follow the on-screen wizard. It will ask you to create a new admin password, WiFi name and password.
It can be annoying, but the setup process is usually simple. The orbilogin page guides you step by step. The only time it gets tricky is if your ISP has some weird configuration, but in most cases, it just works.
Common Issues After a Reset
Some of the common issues after reset are:
Orbilogin still won’t open: If this happens you should clear your browser cache or try a different device. Sometimes your old saved IP or DNS cache causes conflicts.
WiFi won’t connect: Remember, after a factory reset orbi, the WiFi name and password go back to default. Check the label on the router again.
Satellite won’t sync: If you are using Orbi satellites, you will need to re-sync them. Press the sync button on both the router and the satellite until they link.
ISP not detected: Reboot your modem, then power cycle both devices (modem first, then Orbi).
A Few Helpful Tips
Hold the button long enough, otherwise it just reboots instead of doing a full reset.
After a factory reset Orbi, update the firmware right away through the orbilogin page. Old firmware can result into recurring issues.
You should note down your admin password somewhere safely. Too many people end up stuck because they forget it, then they are forced into another reset.
If you have got multiple satellites, sync them one at a time after resetting. Doing all at once usually fails.
Conclusion
Resetting your Orbi is the last option. It is not something you enjoy doing, but if nothing else works, it usually fixes things fast. The only downside is you will have to set it up again through orbilogin. A bit of a hassle, but it clears out all the random bugs and gives you a clean start.
